A simple, forgiving dripper is the best place to start.
We generally recommend beginning with a brewer that offers consistency, flexibility, and ease of use, rather than something highly technical to start with. Drippers with good flow control and widely available filters make it easier to learn and get repeatable results. But also allow you to play around with your preferences easier
Conical drippers tend to be more forgiving and adaptable, while flat-bottom drippers can offer great clarity once you’re comfortable with pouring and grind adjustment. Both styles can produce excellent coffee, and neither is “better” overall.
More importantly than the brewer itself are:
- A consistent grinder
- Fresh coffee
- Reasonably good water
As you brew more and refine your taste, you may find yourself drawn to different drippers for different styles. Starting simple leaves plenty of room to explore later.
